The Scourge of myfanbox.com
It is always important to be aware of and take precautions against any spam and phishing activity. Myfanbox.com has recently become notorious for its status as an elaborate scam website, involved in phishing emails. There are many ways it operates and fanbox spam can be extremely hard to get rid of permanently, with many reporting email flooding and spamming attributed to email senders with myfanbox related email addresses.
This usually occurs when a user receives an email which subject line states they have gotten a fanbox oy myfanbox email message from a friend. The email content sometimes involves an invitation to view something such as a picture and then asks the user to click on several links to the website, luring them into the spamming myfanbox website. The user will not be able to view the supposed picture from their friend and instead may be asked to “opt in” or “opt out” to be part of myfanbox or to allow the site to register the user’s email address. By clicking an option, the website is able to access the user’s contacts list and use the email addresses to send out more bogus and spam myfanbox email invitations.
Some have reported to have escaped this continual spam cycle by clicking on the unsubscribe link in the spam email, but most say the link was just a clever trap. Make sure you do not click any link in the spam email as every link, including the unsubscribe link, registers a fanbox account using the recipient’s address, and the “click” is treated as consent to receive future communication (spam) from fanbox. The only way to fully and completely get rid of this spammer is to create a filter to delete all emails that contain the word fanbox as soon as they are received at your end. No legitimate company or individual is even remotely likely to use that word for any purpose other than spam.
If you receive an email from fanbox claiming that you owe them money, such as a processing fee, which when paid will entitle you to a larger amount, do not get carried away or feel obliged to pay. It is a scam.
The scam fanbox are operating is designed to defraud people by selling them a six-figure income from home dream. It is known for generating epidemic proportions of spam, compromising personal and financial details of victims, tricking unsuspecting people into paying a service fee for an unsolicited, deceptive line of credit. Users are baited by fake income reports of existing members who have allegedly generated hundreds of thousands of dollars just by performing activities such as sharing multimedia content already available on the internet or by selling pirated eBooks and software to each other. They are then presented with a plethora of paid features/services that promise to bring the buyer’s account under some special algorithms to enable them to quickly make more money – which is of course false.
In actual fact, a small percentage of users who serve as bait come out with actual profits, whilst the larger percentage have either lost their money to fanbox or have been put in convoluted loops waiting for years for their cash pay-out of supposed earnings, thus fanbox makes a profit. Its terms and conditions even sign away your right to sue them for any kind of monetary loss.
So do not allow yourself to become victim of this obstinate spammer and watch out for any warning signs. Some email service providers offer some security measures and options to report spam and phishing emails, but the most important thing is to be aware and be on guard.
