Google’s surreptitious shake up

Google is notorious for the secrecy of its search algorithms. Google has treated its algorithms with such secrecy no one outside of Google knows truly what it is. Even the employees who leave Google do not know what the algorithm truly is anymore because it is changed so many times per year. These are usually minor changes that can only be felt by very small groups. The updates that everyone worries about are “Mobilegeddon”, “Penguin”, “Pigeon”, “Pirate”, etc.

The most recent update was conducted stealthily and was not revealed until the last moment. It was nicknamed the “Phantom 2” update by the industry. As much as the industry tried to get Google to admit they had changed the search algorithm, they would not. It becomes very clear when the algorithm has changed, because search rankings start going haywire.

It is incredibly important to keep on top of your SEO research. Keep looking at where your rankings are and track any changes they make. It is hard to tell when Google will make their next major update. It is wise to keep a look out for weird changes in your keyword ranking.
